9:15AM INTRODUCTION TO CHP/TRAINER

9:30AM Talk 1: Understanding and managing anxiety

Anxiety disorders are very common amongst people on the autistic spectrum. The anxiety that autistic people experience might be different from 'normal' ('neurotypical') anxiety. Learn the reasons autistic people are likely to feel anxious and discover simple, effective strategies that can have an enormous effect on the individual's day to day experience of life.

10:55AM Talk 2: Ways to help autistic people become more resilient

Resilience is the capacity to recover from difficult situations. Autistic people might be more sensitive and more naive than other people. They may have more difficulties than other people. Learn some ways to build resilience in autistic people so that they may have a slightly easier time getting through life.

12:35PM Video: A Day At University For The Girl With The Curly Hair

Your chance to watch a short film written and directed by Alis Rowe, autistic woman and founder of The Curly Hair Project, with time for discussion and review of the film afterwards.

1:15PM Talk 3: ‘Social Energy Theory’ – This Theory About Socialising Will Change Your Life!

'Social Energy' is a unique idea that proposes that all individuals have a different capacity for social interactions. Lots of people who enjoy The Curly Hair Project work say that the idea of social energy has been by far "the most helpful tool" they've ever come across. Understand this theory and improve your social life and your relationships.

2:20PM Talk 4: Seeing and using the positive traits of autism

There's a large amount of focus on the negatives and difficulties associated with autism. Let's put a spin on it and discover some of the positive traits and how these can be used to benefit the autistic individual and the people around them.
