A two day workshop aimed at those supporting individuals on the Autism Spectrum that are displaying demand avoidant behaviours or that have a diagnosis of PDA.


A two day workshop aimed at those supporting individuals on the Autism Spectrum that are displaying demand avoidant behaviours or that have a diagnosis of PDA.

Both parents and professionals are welcome and time will be spent to ensure all perspectives are heard and respected.

Your trainers are Sam Harris, manager and creator of the BISnet service, Family consultant and someone with over 10 years of exepereince supporitng Autisitc individuals. He has worked with individuals who fit the demand avoidance profile for a number of years in a number of different roles. He is joined for this course by Andrew Southwell. Andy is currently the assistant head of an SEN school with over 300 pupils, has expereince working in specialist educational provision for Autism and studied for his Masters on the subject of PDA in education.

The course runs from 9:30am until 2:30pm each day with an hour for questions and specific discussions after for those who can stay on.

On the course you will cover:

* Understanding the basics of Autism and the demand avoidance profile and diagnosis.

* Exploring how traditional approaches to Autism can be approached with a less direct delivery

* Understanding the role demands play in anxiety and how anxiety impacts cognitive ability.

* Supporting yourself to maintain what can be very challenging effects of the behaviours

* Learning other techniques more appropriate to supporting individuals with demand avoidance behaviours

* Consider more long term developmental approaches, as well as educational adjustments.
